Lift #4

In June 2017 Charlotte and I got married! Exactly one week after the wedding we went and bought my 1986 IROC-Z…a car I had wanted since high school. Charlotte had been using the 3000GT as her summer car after learning to drive manual on it (just as I did years earlier!). She appreciated the car but it wasn’t what she wanted. She had always loved the BMW E46 M3s since she first saw one.

As I’ve said before finding a used car can take a long time if you have something particular in mind. In her case it had to be a coupe, had to be manual transmission, and had to have black interior. Just before winter one popped up in Chicago so we went down to take a look at it and a few days later headed back and brought it home.

Without heat I still wasn’t working on cars in the winter so we were able to use the Bendpak working hoist for storage and stack cars over winter. But it was a problem that needed solving come spring. A deal popped up in March for the same Dannmar D-7X 4 post storage lift that I already had and I figured out it would tuck in perfectly in the back next to the other one.

At this point I am over 15 months away from finally putting the 2nd 2 post “working” lift up but the 4 post lifts are a lot shorter and don’t present issues with doing the ceiling so I was good to order it and get it setup immediately. And that I did. This time around I took more pictures to better show how we got it setup.

As delivered. They aren’t easy on freight!
I was able to get everything unloaded by myself using tools to my advantage.
Mark showed up to assist. We had a little better strategy this time and it was much easier.
Floor jack holding up one, crane the other. Then we slide the columns and cross bar under.
This was my strategy for moving it into place. Whatever I had sitting around.
Bam!
